The clinic was established in 2008 due to the high demand for a primary care skin cancer services in the Horowhenua region. Our clinicians will assess your skin lesions using a dermoscope and the latest imaging technology from Heine, Germany. Whilst we are not a general dermatology clinic, we do employ accredited skin cancer physicians, proceduralists and registered nurses with extensive training and experience in skin cancer medicine, lasers, minor-surgery and aesthetics. All our staff members are fully trained and certified to ensure quality care, and peace of mind for our patients.

Dr Louw has completed several advanced accreditation courses in Skin Cancer Medicine and Lasers, including a Master's Degree in Skin Cancer Medicine from the University of Queensland. He further obtained an Australian Diploma in Dermatology and certifications from the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and a Masterclass in Laser Tattoo Removal. Professional memberships include: Fellow of Skin Cancer Institute, Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with the Skin Cancer College Australasia, Australasian College of Aesthetic Medicine, American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, International Dermoscopy Society and International Society of Teledermatology.

Sue is a skin cancer practice nurse and has worked at the practice since 2014. She has completed post-graduate training in Primary Care Skin Cancer Medicine, Advanced Dermatoscopy and Medical Spa Aesthetics. She regularly assists in surgical procedures, provides follow-up care and liquid nitrogen treatment. Sue graduated with Bachelor of Nursing from the Polytechic, Palmerston North in December 1998. Her 15 years of nursing experience range from acute medical and surgical environments, district nursing and more recently general practice. Workplaces included Antarctica, Saudi Arabia, Lower Hutt and the Horowhenua. Sue is committed to ongoing professional development and competence.

Awhina and Sheena are siblings and have studied at Elite School of Beauty & Spa in Tauranga and obtained Certificates in Makeup & Skincare. They recently completed Beauty Therapy Level 4 (UCOL) and Advanced Medical Spa Therapy certifications (DermaLearn). They have also completed training courses in Laser Safety, Radiofrequency Safety, Microdermabrasion, Dermaplaning, Advanced Facials and Chemical Peeling. They are passionate about delivering an outstanding service and professional experience to help each client feel confident in their skin.

Medical Office Assistant & Receptionist
Colleen is the first friendly face you’ll meet when you come into the practice. She is also the helpful person on the other end of the phone when you call us. She has worked at Skin Medic since 2012 and is very experienced. She has several level 4 business certificates and is a qualified medical office assistant. She can help you with all your inquiries ranging from scheduling appointments to words of encouragement! Colleen is also a very skillful Blues genre songwriter with songs like ‘One Bad Hammer’ appearing on Midge Marsden’s latest soundtrack ‘Back to the Well’. This creativity with her warm personality and unwavering commitment makes her an invaluable asset to this practice.
