Isobel's Medi Spa in collaboration with Skin Medic now offers various cellulite reduction treatments. Before the procedure, a doctor or a nurse practitioner will review the patient’s medical history and suitability. This is the time for the clinician and patient to discuss the procedure, expectations, potential risks and outcomes of the procedure. Patients should understand that there are not yet any long-term studies on these procedures and that there is no guarantee regarding their effectiveness.

Patients with unrealistic expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure are not good candidates for non-invasive treatments. Likewise, people who regard non-invasive removal of excess fat as a substitute for proper diet and exercise also are not good candidates. Other conditions that may exclude you from having body contouring treatments, include:

#  Cryoglobulinemia or known sensitivity to cold such as cold urticaria or Raynaud’s disease;
#  Impaired peripheral circulation in the area to be treated;
#  Neuropathic disorders, such as post-herpetic neuralgia or diabetic neuropathy;
#  Recent surgery; Open or infected wounds; Tendency to scarring or hyperpigmentation;
#  Bleeding disorders or concomitant use of blood thinners;
#  A hernia or history of hernia in the area to be treated or adjacent to treatment site;
#  Skin conditions, such as melasma, eczema, dermatitis, or undiagnosed rashes;
#  Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or hormonal replacement therapy;
#  Any active implanted devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.

LIPOSONIX (Only Available @ Isobel's Medispa, Palmerston North)

Liposonix a completely non-invasive, focused ultrasound technology is designed to treat troublesome areas of cellulite which does not respond to diet or exercise. This FDA approved technology is not intended as a replacement for quick weight loss, abdominoplasty or liposuction, but as a complementary body contouring procedure. Only patients with a BMI of 30 or less will be considered for treatment. The benefits of this procedure are: 1) It is completely non-invasive; 2) It can reduce abdominal circumference by several inches; and 3) There is little to no patient downtime. However, just like Cryolipolysis side-effects can occur. These may include discomfort, pain, swelling, redness, bruising and post-inflammatory pigmentation.

The Liposonix treatment achieves targeted cellulite reduction in the areas of the abdomen, flanks, buttocks and thighs. The fat cells that are destroyed in the treated areas are no longer available to store fat deposits, and are removed over a period of 8 to 12 weeks through the body's natural healing process. A single treatment may result in an average waist circumference reduction of approximately 1-3 cm, which may leave you with a slimmer, more contoured waistline. Individual results may vary. Please contact us to find out what finance options are available for this procedure.
CRYOLIPOLYSIS (Only Available @ Isobel's Medispa, Palmerston North)

The Cryolipolysis procedure is another non-invasive procedure that delivers controlled cooling at the surface of the skin and subcutaneous tissue to destroy fat cells. Just like HIFU or Liposonix, it is not a weight-loss solution, and it does not replace traditional methods such as liposuction. Clinical studies have shown that the Cryolipolysis procedure will help to naturally remove fat cells, but as with most procedures, experiences and visible results will vary from person to person.

What you can expect: You may experience intense cold, stinging, tingling, aching or cramping as the treatment begins. These sensations generally subside as the area becomes numb. The treated area may look or feel stiff after the procedure and temporary whitening of the skin may occur. Bruising, swelling, and tenderness can occur in the treated area and it may appear red for one to two weeks after treatment. You may start to see changes in as early as 3 weeks after your first Cryolipolysis procedure, and will experience the most noticeable results after 2 - 3 months. Additional treatments may be needed to reach your desired outcome. In rare cases, patients have reported persistent darkening of the skin, hardness, discrete nodules, freeze burn, enlargement of the treated area, and worsening of existing hernia following the Cryolipolysis procedure.

a) Note: only healthy patients with BMI 30 or less will be considered
b) Treatment options, cost and expectations, current diet and exercise plans will be discussed with the patient
c) Estimated fees: Large head $299, Smaller head $199, Chin $179

RADIOFREQUENCY BODY CONTOURING (Only Available @ Isobel's Medispa, Palmerston North)

Radiofrequency body contouring and cavatation stimulates the production of new collagen, improves skin surface texture and at same time reduce the upper subcutanous fat layer. Treatments with the Radiofrequency system are quick and do not require anesthesia or a prolonged recovery time. Patients can resume their normal activities immediately. Best of all, this thermotherapy based treatment provides steady improvement with excellent, long-term skin tightening results. This procedure is especially helpful where fat tissue thickness  is less than 1cm and other treatments e.g. Liposonix or Cryolipolysis are contraindicated.
